Low self-esteem leads to murder

on april 25, 2023, ms olivia kaserran appeared in court over the murder of her own child the previous sunday. she did not take a plea as the investigating officer requested that she be detained in police custody for 13 days, pending the conclusion of investigations. the court granted a detention period of 10 days.

ms kaserran, a 24-year-old bachelor of commerce student enrolled at a local university, admitted to the crime in an exclusive interview with the nation newspaper on monday. she stated that she attacked her child due to her low self-esteem and self-hatred. she did not elaborate on the nature of her suffering.

the gruesome crime was captured on video by neighbors who heard screams and rushed to the scene. they witnessed ms kaserran stabbing and dismembering her daughter while she was naked and in a violent state. the toddler was already dead when the neighbors managed to enter the house. the furniture and electronics in the home were destroyed, and ms kaserran was also in the process of feeding on her daughter's entrails.

ms kaserran's parents were not present at the time of the incident. her father is a teacher in the eastern region, while her mother was visiting relatives in nyahururu. ms kaserran had arrived at her parents' home on saturday from meru, where she had been living with her daughter. police found the kitchen knife used in the crime at the scene.

according to kitengela directorate of criminal investigations officer benson mutia, ms kaserran will be formally charged once investigations are complete. the motive of the killing and whether it was premeditated are currently under investigation.

this incident occurred just two days after a 22-year-old woman was brutally attacked and killed in a suspected love triangle at a kitengela pizza shop. the suspect was nearly lynched by locals but survived and was taken to the hospital.
